Firm Policies
Fourteen years in the military taught me to be on time, be thorough, pay attention to detail, and to know my stuff because others are relying on me. You can count on me to exercise these same qualities as I work on your legal matter.
Consultations: 1 hour consultations available for a small fee
Why do I charge a fee for a consultation? There are a few reasons. First, when I conduct an initial consultation you will be receiving legal advice. I believe my legal knowledge and advice are worth charging for. Second, many of the attorneys offering free consultations will give you only 30 minutes of their time. I believe it is nearly impossible to give a truly beneficial consultation in just 30 minutes. That short amount of time allows you and the attorney to only discuss generalities of the law. My fuller 60 minute consultations allow us the time to discuss the specifics of your particular case and, then, to discuss how the law applies to your case, not a general case like yours. Third, once we have had an initial consultation, even if you do not hire me, I am forever precluded from representing someone with interests adverse to yours. I believe that loss of potential business is worth charging for.
Fees: Legal services are charged on an hourly basis or for a fixed fee, depending on the nature of the legal matter with which I'll be assisting. I require a retainer fee for all hourly work. My hourly rate is quite competitive and reasonable. Fixed fee work is generally due ½ up front before I begin work on your matter and ½ upon completion.
Credit Cards: I accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards for payments.
Office Hours: Monday — Friday 8:30 to 5:00. Some evening and weekend appointments available upon request.
Telephone Calls: My policy is to return all telephone calls by the end of the next business day, with most calls returned much sooner than that.
Keeping You Informed: I have committed myself to keeping my clients informed of the status of their case. You can count on me to relay all relevant information to you in a very timely manner.
Limited Representation or Unbundled Legal Services: I offer a variety of unbundled legal services. Unbundled legal services means the client hires an attorney in a limited fashion as a consultant or to assist in preparing court documents and pleadings. The attorney does not enter an appearance with the court on the client's behalf and does not communicate with the opposing party's attorney. The client retains responsibility for meeting all court deadlines and requirements. This limited representation is quite frequently a low cost alternative to full legal representation. Please note, however, that unbundled legal services are not always appropriate and I may refuse to provide unbundled legal services in certain circumstances (for instance, if the case is particularly complex).
